Goldman Sach's Has Atlanta's Back

A $100 Million dollar initiative by MARTA to develop affordable, mixed-income housing, NEAR MARTA STATIONS, is being backed by the one and only Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs is known as a diverse investment banking company, and recently a partner of the sleek new Apple card.
Goldman Sachs is targeting what is known as “Opportunity Zones”. These are federal acknowledged areas in which the government incentives an influx of outside capital. These opportunity zones can be found around areas designated as “Transit-Oriented Development Projects”. The areas designated by MARTA in 2019 included Bankhead, Ashby, Vine City, HE Holmes, Five Points, West End, Lakewood-Fort McPherson.
The major signs of support for this MARTA progression can be seen in The Georgia General Assembly's new budget allocation of $6 million with hopes to improve The Bankhead Station near the future Microsoft campus. According to Debbie Frank, Director of Transit, it is the overall hope of the department to simultaneously uplift and sustain affordable housing by issuing programs that build units aiming for 30% of the area’s median income. MARTA has close to 400 affordable units already completed or under construction. And about 1,500 units in the early stages of development!
